Lithuanian contemporary dance dominated the festival in Beijing

ID poster 2

Beijing’s second contemporary dance festival began in August in Beijing. This year, the festival’s organisers focused on European contemporary dance, so there were performances by troupes from Hungary, Slovakia, Macedonia, Sweden and Lithuania. Choreographers from the USA and Canada were also presented. The people of the capital of China were invited not just to performances, but to dance workshops and lectures as well.

The festival was held in Beijing’s TNT theatre, also known as the Chaoyang Cultural Centre. The program was clearly dominated by Lithuanian dancers, with a total of three separate performances. Paulius Tamolė, Agnė Ramanauskaitė and Mantas Stabačinskas’ Contemporary? (Arts Printing House) was presented on 24 August, Marius Pinigis and Mantas Stabčinskas’ ID:D&G was presented on 25 August, and Birutė Banevičiūtė’s Maži Stebūklai (Dansema) was presented on 27 and 28 August.

Lithuanian dancers’ participation in the festival was partially funded by the Lithuanian Culture Council.
